Annual Conference
The Challenge of Marketing in Higher Education

Thursday 26 February 2009

Following changes to HEFCE funding and a cap on full-time undergraduate student numbers with heavy penalties being predicted for over-recruitment, now more than ever, there is a need to increase the competitiveness of universities. Marketing and Communications professionals are once again in the spotlight and potentially bear the burden of their institution’s future success.

After the successful launch of HE MIG in February 2008, our second annual conference – The Challenge of Competition in Higher Education –was held at St.James’ Park in Newcastle Upon Tyne on February 26, 2009.

The Conference considered marketing in a downturn and featured views on the latest funding situation from Professor Neil Gorman, Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University and Professor Paul Younger, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Engagement at Newcastle University.

A range of breakout sessions covered what business values from higher education, internal engagement, managing your brand through new media, CRM and cross media recruitment strategies, HE marketing in a downturn and how to conduct effective market research.
